about

In 2005, American Ambulance returned to their Brooklyn home base, Excello Studio in Williamsburg, to dig in to a new batch of songs from songwriter/bandleader Pete Cenedella. With one record left on their 3-album deal, they were determined to deliver something big. The brilliant lead guitarist Scott Aldrich (Emily Duff Band) and Pete had been working up arrangements. "Fifth Ambulance driver" Hugh Pool was back on the boards sharing production duties with Pete.

With original AmAM drummer Joe Dessereau only able to play on about half the record, Pete brought in drummer Will Rigby (dBs, Steve Earle & the Dukes, Cheri Knight). In pre-production, Pete and Hugh started fleshing out arrangement ideas, and agreed that several of the new batch of songs called for keyboards; enter the great Brian Mitchell (Levon Helm Band, Rosanne Cash), the luminescent singer Erica Smith (Murderers' Row, 99-Cent Dreams), and of course NYC Blues Hall of Famer Hugh Pool himself.

The results were breathtaking, as AmAM grew its approach from the Gram Parsons-meets-Joe Strummer vibe of previous records, to an expansive sound integrating '70s FM radio Rock, gospel-soul balladry, psychedelia, and group harmonies. This concise 8-song digital EP captures the group and their comrades cooking up one of the great under-appreciated Rock n' Roll albums of the 21st century.
